We’re pleased to share important updates about how Roper St. Francis Healthcare Neurosurgery has enhanced our capabilities, added more leading-edge technologies and streamlined referrals, making it easier for your patients to quickly get exceptional neurosurgical care.
Expanded capabilities. We recently added three neurosurgeons to our team, broadening our expertise in multi-level spine deformities and neuroendovascular conditions. Our care includes:
- Treatment for a broad spectrum of spine conditions, primary and metastatic brain tumors, and peripheral, peroneal and cranial nerve conditions
- The latest technologies, including GPS-guided navigation systems, fluorescence-guided surgery and stereotactic radiosurgery using the TrueBeam platform
- Clinical trials to improve tumor care, including a recently opened Phase II/III trial for patients with newly diagnosed glioblastoma multiforme
- Neuroendovascular care, including biplane imaging for embolization of endovascular conditions (coming end of 2026)

Exceptional quality, outcomes and patient satisfaction. Across our hospitals, neurosurgery patients experience shorter stays, lower readmissions, lower infection rates and lower inpatient mortality versus national benchmarks. We’ve earned:
- An overall HCAHPS score of 98 and a CG-CAHPS rating of 4.7
- Top marks from CMS and The Leapfrog Group
- Recognition as a Blue Distinction Center+ for Spine Surgery by the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association (Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital)
Personal, individualized care. As a community hospital, we take time to get to know each patient and answer questions, and patients are seen only by providers directly involved in their care. We create tailored, multidisciplinary care plans and partner closely with pain management and other specialties to consider conservative, non-surgical options whenever possible.

Fast, convenient access. We’ve overhauled our referral process to enable faster, more convenient care.
- Urgent referrals are reviewed the same day. Those patients are seen the same day or the next day.
- Non-urgent referrals are reviewed within 48 hours. Patients who are flexible on provider/location typically get a same-day or next-day appointment.
- We offer care at four convenient locations across the tri-county area and recently started offering inpatient neurosurgery procedures at Berkeley Hospital.
- As always, we view referring providers as partners. Our neurosurgeons keep you updated via calls, texts and/or Epic messages.
Thank you for trusting us with your patients.
