New 40-foot unit Mobile Care for You arrives, expanding care across the Lowcountry

The Roper St. Francis Health Services Center is expanding its reach across the Lowcountry with the arrival of its new mobile unit, Mobile Care for You.

The nearly 40-foot mobile unit features two exam rooms, including one designed for both medical and dental care, as well as a lab area, patient waiting and intake space, a bathroom and a wheelchair lift for accessibility.

Teammates might spot the new unit in the parking lot of the Office Park, where it arrived Sept. 4. Roper St. Francis Healthcare will celebrate Mobile Care for You with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, at the Office Park.

The arrival of Mobile Care for You marks another step in Roper St. Francis Healthcare’s efforts to meet people where they are and make quality healthcare more accessible throughout the Lowcountry.

The new unit will work alongside our existing Mobile Health Unit, which provides health screenings, education and resource connections at community events across the Tri-County Area. Mobile Care for You expands that mobile outreach with additional clinical and supportive services for residents across seven counties: Charleston, Berkeley, Dorchester, Williamsburg, Colleton, Horry and Georgetown.

Meeting people where they are

For more than 25 years, the Health Services Center has provided comprehensive sexual health and wellness services to communities across the Lowcountry. As Health Services’ reach has grown, so has the need to make care more accessible to people who may face transportation, distance and other barriers to receiving care.

Mobile Care for You helps address those barriers by bringing clinical and supportive services directly into communities. The unit will travel throughout the region, helping connect more people with preventive services, ongoing medical care and other resources closer to home.

Mobile Care for You will provide a range of community health services, including:

• Primary care
• Preventive health screenings
• Blood pressure and diabetes screenings
• Vaccinations and immunizations
• HIV prevention, testing and treatment linkage
• STI testing and treatment
• PrEP education and navigation
• Care coordination and case management
• Community resource referrals
• Health education and wellness programming
• Preventive dentistry
