New Berkeley Hospital cafe offers modern dining, marks milestone in Morrison partnership

Now that Berkeley Hospital celebrated the completion of its major expansion project, patients, visitors and teammates are enjoying a significantly enhanced dining experience: a newly renovated cafe designed to deliver faster service, expanded dining options and a more welcoming atmosphere. 

Operated by Morrison Healthcare, the renovated cafe recently opened following a major expansion that — like many areas of the hospital — doubled its footprint, creating additional space for clinical caregivers, staff and guests to dine, recharge and connect. 

The cafe’s debut represents one of the final touches on Roper St. Francis Healthcare’s more than three-year expansion of Berkeley Hospital, a project that added more than 300,000 square feet of new and renovated space, doubled the hospital’s bed capacity and expanded access to advanced services for one of the Lowcountry’s fastest-growing communities. 

“The experience patients, families and teammates have in our facilities extends far beyond clinical care,” said Jennifer Crawford, Chief Nursing Officer at Berkeley Hospital. “This beautiful new cafe creates a more convenient, comfortable and welcoming environment for everyone who visits Berkeley Hospital, while reflecting our commitment to investing in every aspect of the healthcare experience.” 

Designed with convenience and flexibility in mind, the renovated cafe features new prepay, self-service kiosks that allow guests to pay before selecting their food, streamlining the checkout process and supporting a faster grab-and-go experience. The cafe also offers continually evolving menus featuring fresh, varied options that reflect changing guest preferences and dining trends. 

The opening also marks a significant milestone for Roper St. Francis Healthcare and Morrison Healthcare, which are celebrating 20 years of partnership in 2026. 

For two decades, the organizations have worked together to enhance the patient, guest and teammate experience through innovation, quality and operational excellence. Throughout that partnership, Roper St. Francis Healthcare and Morrison Healthcare have invested in new technologies, elevated dining experiences and service enhancements across the health system. 

Among those innovations was the introduction of the nation’s first Amazon Just Walk Out-enabled, 24-hour, full-service hospital coffee shop, as well as Morrison’s recent launch of a new patient menu program featuring restaurant-quality meals.

Berkeley Hospital opened in 2019 as Berkeley County’s first full-service hospital in 45 years. Since then, the rapid growth of Goose Creek, Summerville and surrounding communities has driven continued investment in the campus, culminating in the recent completion of the hospital’s transformative expansion project.
