Yes. We offer minimally invasive and robotic-assisted surgery to minimize pain and speed healing. Our experienced surgeons have special training in these procedures.

How you should prepare for surgery depends on the type of surgery you’re having. Your surgical care team will walk you through every step. They’ll explain any pre-operative tests and your anesthesia plan, so you can go into surgery feeling safe and confident.

We offer general surgery across the Lowcountry. While most surgeries used to be performed in a hospital, advances in minimally invasive and robotic-assisted techniques now allow many procedures to be performed as outpatient procedures.

We know surgery can feel overwhelming. Our experienced care team supports you every step of the way to ensure you feel informed, comfortable and confident in your care. Our experienced surgeons perform a wide variety of procedures, including:

Abdominal surgery, including surgery on the appendix, small intestine, colon, stomach, gallbladder, spleen, adrenal glands, pancreas and liver.
Gallbladder surgery, including minimally invasive gallbladder removal.
Hernia repair, to fix an organ or tissue squeezing through a weak spot in the wall of the abdomen.
Minimally invasive surgery, which uses smaller incisions for less pain and faster recovery 
Reflux surgery, a common option for patients who’ve tried lifestyle changes and medication.
Thyroid and parathyroid surgery, using minimally invasive techniques whenever possible to minimize scarring and speed recovery.
Skin and soft tissue, provides comprehensive skin and soft tissue surgery, including specialized cancer care, reconstructive plastic surgery, and wound care.
Acute surgery, service focuses on urgent, time-sensitive cases, including abdominal surgery, hernia repair, and gallbladder removal, with an emphasis on minimally invasive, laparoscopic techniques for faster recovery.

Helping you feel prepared and confident

Your surgeon will meet with you for a consultation and arrange any diagnostic testing you may need, such as a CT scan, PET scan or pulmonary function tests. During this appointment, your care team will make sure you have everything you need to feel prepared for your procedure, including:

Reviewing your medical history
Providing clear instructions about pre-surgery fasting
Reminding you to bring your medications and emergency contact information on the day of surgery
Explaining your anesthesia plan and what to expect
Educating you about the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) program to support a faster recovery and discharge

Your care team will explain every step of the process and answer all of your questions so you can feel confident and prepared for your procedure.

As your surgery begins, your care team will explain the anesthesia they will use and how they will monitor you throughout the procedure. Your team typically includes a surgeon, an anesthesiologist and a nurse specialist, all working together to keep you safe and comfortable.

Depending on your procedure, you may need to stay in the hospital, or you may be able to go home the same day. Your care team will let you know what to expect. Before you leave, we'll make sure you have detailed instructions for your recovery at home and answer any questions you may have.

We will also:

Explain supportive services, such as rehabilitation or physical therapy, if you need them
Make sure you know how to manage your pain
Schedule any necessary follow-up appointments
