• The average length of stay for our patients with a diagnosis of stroke was approximately 13.4 days.
• 78.4% of our stroke patients returned to the community instead of another level of care.
• 7.9% of our patients had an unplanned transfer to an acute hospital.
• 87% of patients with a diagnosis of stroke rated their quality of care as very good to excellent.
• The average improvement in mobility score was 38.4
• Average improvement in self-care score was 15.8
• Patients with a diagnosis of stroke received an average of over 3 hours of therapy, 5 days a week.

• 2 additional patients with a diagnosis of stroke were seen for intensive outpatient therapy.

• 6 patients returned to work or a vocational program.
• 14 patients returned to active retirement.
• 100% of patients surveyed rated the competence of the staff as excellent.
• 100% of patients surveyed rated care provided by staff as excellent.
• Patients received an average of 1-2 hours of therapy 3-4 times per week.
• Patients with a diagnosis of stroke received an average of 16 PT visits & 18 OT visits.

Stroke rehabilitation helps you regain abilities lost because of a stroke or adapt to new limitations. It typically includes physical, occupational, and speech therapy. Our care is personalized to your needs. We help you improve mobility, thinking, communication, and more.

Recovering from a stroke is a process. Depending on your stroke’s severity, it may take weeks, months, or longer. Often, recovery is most notable in the early stages after a stroke. That’s when rehabilitation is most important. Although complete recovery may not occur, with rehabilitation, most people see significant improvement in their condition.

Inpatient rehabilitation takes place while you’re in the hospital or at a rehab facility. You’ll have access to around-the-clock nursing care as well as laboratory, pharmacy, and imaging services. Outpatient rehab is appointment-based. You’ll travel to our facilities or clinics and return home after treatment, just as you would for a doctor’s appointment. 

Generally, insurance plans and Medicare cover stroke rehabilitation services, both inpatient and outpatient. However, preauthorization may be necessary. It’s always worthwhile to check with your plan. Be sure to ask about deductibles and copayments. 

To be admitted to our Stroke Specialty Program, you must be referred by a doctor. Most patients admitted to a Roper St. Francis Healthcare hospital for a stroke will be referred to our inpatient or outpatient rehabilitation programs by their attending physicians. Patients can also be referred to these programs by their Primary Care Physicians.
