Bloodless medicine and surgery program

Most of our surgeons participate in the program and work closely with other specialists to ensure your choices are always respected. We decide who will be part of the program on a case-by-case basis to make sure every patient gets what they need. 

Your participation in the program starts when you share your desire to avoid a blood transfusion with your surgeon at your pre-operative visit. We also recommend you:

• Let your pre-admission nurse know you’re a Bloodless Medicine patient
• Make sure your healthcare power of attorney reflects your wishes
• Schedule regular checkups with your doctor to ensure your blood levels remain healthy

A compassionate care team will ensure your treatment plan aligns with your wishes and will decide on non-blood alternatives on a case-by-case basis. Your team of bloodless medicine specialists, which will likely include doctors, nurses, pharmacists and lab experts, will support you throughout your stay.
