Student athlete support program

At Roper St. Francis Healthcare, we partner with schools across the greater Charleston area, including many local high schools and Charleston Southern University, to keep young athletes healthy, strong and game-ready.

Our certified athletic trainers are proud to serve public and private schools throughout Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties. Each week, they care for approximately 5,500 young athletes, making them key to these schools' health and athletic programs.

Our trainers:

  • Act as the emergency medical personnel on-site
  • Evaluate and treat injuries, including concussions
  • Serve as part of school wellness programs and athletic departments
  • Track and document injuries or illnesses

Think of these on-site specialists as the first line of defense for preventing injuries, responding to emergencies and ensuring student athletes get the support they need.

To ensure young athletes continue to receive coordinated care long after the game is over, our trainers work closely with our Sports Medicine and Concussion specialists when needed. We build close partnerships with school staff and families to ensure every student has access to timely, expert care when it’s needed most. Parents can count on quick communication about any sports-related injuries and access to same- or next-day appointments for every athlete.
