Whether your problem is related to an injury, overuse or another medical condition, our foot and ankle specialists treat the full range of podiatric and orthopedic foot disorders throughout the greater Charleston area.

Conditions we treat include:

  • Achilles tendon injuries range from inflammation (tendonitis) to rupture. A rupture is a tear in the tissue that connects your calf muscle to your heel bone.
  • Ankle sprains and fractures happen when ligaments that hold ankle bones together stretch abnormally or tear. A fracture is a break in the bone.
  • Arch disorders need care when you have abnormally high arches or flat feet, both of which can cause discomfort and instability.
  • Arthritis causes pain, stiffness and/or inflammation in the joints of the foot and ankle.
  • Bunions are bony growths at the joint where your big toe and foot meet.
  • Corns and calluses are thickened areas of skin. They may cause no symptoms or be quite painful.
  • Hammertoe is a condition in which a toe or toes bend downward. This can create the appearance of a hammer.
  • Heel spurs are bony growths under the heel bone.
  • Neuromas are noncancerous enlargements around a nerve.
  • Pediatric foot disorders include a wide range of conditions, such as flat feet, ingrown toenails and pigeon toes.
  • Plantar fasciitis is a condition in which the tissue of your arches is inflamed.

Our orthopedic and podiatry teams use a variety of treatments for the foot and ankle to relieve your symptoms and make it easier to get around. In most cases, we try nonsurgical treatments first. These methods include:

  • Diabetic foot care: Professional treatment for calluses and corns, screenings and more can help prevent complications of high blood sugar and neuropathy.
  • Injections: Corticosteroids may reduce inflammation and pain.
  • Medications: You may take medicine by mouth or apply it to your skin with gels and patches, to reduce inflammation and nerve pain.
  • Orthotics and bracing: Shoe inserts and devices, such as braces or splints, can provide support, improve body alignment or correct deformities.
  • Physical therapy and rehabilitation: Stretching, exercises and other treatments, such as manual therapy, can help reduce pain.

When nonsurgical approaches don’t give you the relief you need, our team will talk with you about surgical options that may be right for you.

We currently perform these surgeries and more:

  • Ankle replacement surgery to replace a damaged ankle joint with an artificial one.
  • Joint fusion and reconstruction to stabilize foot bones and relieve pain.
  • Minimally invasive foot and ankle surgery with special instruments and X-ray guidance to treat certain conditions.
  • Tendon repair surgery reconnects torn portions of a tendon, such as your Achilles tendon.
