What happens after a breast cancer diagnosis?

After diagnosis, you’ll meet with a multidisciplinary team to review your results and discuss treatment options. Together you’ll develop a personalized care plan, and your nurse navigator will help coordinate next steps.

What types of breast cancer treatment options are available?

Treatment may include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, hormone therapy, targeted therapy, or a combination of these. Your care team will design a plan based on the specific type and stage of your cancer.

Our approach

As a leading provider in the Lowcountry, our NAPBC-certified breast cancer program cares for between 800 and 900 breast cancer patients each year, placing us among the top 25th percentile nationally by patient volume. We provide access to a network of cancer specialists, advanced technology, clinical trials, and supportive services close to home. Your care team, including breast surgical oncology, medical oncology, and imaging specialists, works together to develop a treatment plan tailored to your specific needs. Nurse navigators are also part of your team, providing guidance, answering questions, and helping you know what to expect every step of the way.

Behind every step of your care is a team working together to keep your treatment connected. Our board-certified breast surgeons, medical oncologists, radiologists, and other specialists meet each week to review your case and plan your care. We also offer a dedicated multidisciplinary clinic, allowing you to see all the specialists involved in your treatment during a single visit. This team-based approach makes care more convenient and ensures every decision is made with your complete health in mind.

Breast cancer is not a single disease. It includes a range of conditions that vary in type, stage and biology.

Treatments

Breast cancer can show up in different ways. In some cases, there may be no symptoms at all, especially in the early stages. That’s why routine screening is so important.

Redness or thickening of the breast skin
