Peripheral nerve conditions

When nerves are compressed, injured or affected by disease, symptoms such as pain, weakness, numbness and tingling can make everyday activities difficult. Our peripheral nerve specialists provide expert care to diagnose the cause, relieve symptoms and help you get back to what you love.

Because nerve disorder symptoms feel like orthopedic condition symptoms, it can be hard to know what’s really going on. That’s why we take the time to listen, evaluate your experiences carefully and personalize every diagnostic plan.

Your evaluation may include a physical exam, along with imaging or specialized nerve testing. By understanding the source of your symptoms, we can make an accurate diagnosis and recommend the most effective treatment.

Tests we may recommend include:

  • Blood tests to help identify underlying causes of nerve conditions, such as diabetes or auto immune disorders
  • Electromyography (EMG) to measure electrical activity in muscles, which helps us identify nerve problems
  • Imaging studies, such as ultrasound, CT and MRI to identify injuries and tumors, as well as inflammation and nerve compression
  • Nerve conduction studies to measure the electrical signals between nerves

No two nerve conditions are exactly alike. That’s why we work closely with you to understand how your symptoms affect your daily life and then tailor treatment to your needs. The goal is to provide nerve pain treatments and care that relieves symptoms and supports your long-term function.

Your personalized care plan may include:

  • Braces and splints to take pressure off nerves and make it easier to function
  • Electrical stimulation to disrupt signals from damaged nerves for pain relief
  • Medication to reduce pain and inflammation, alter nerve signals or address underlying causes
  • Peripheral nerve surgery to relieve pressure on your nerves
