Our residency program

The Roper Hospital chaplain residency program is accredited by ACPE and provides students with the opportunity to earn up to four units of clinical pastoral education (CPE) credit throughout the course of the residency year. You’ll learn from our staff and pastors and gain hands-on experience helping patients in a hospital setting.

CPE internship program FAQs

The Chaplain Residency program is a postgraduate degree educational experience. Most residents will have completed a Master of Divinity (MDiv) degree or an equivalent theological education—although some applicants have been admitted with a master's from another background. The completion of one CPE unit (400 hours) accredited by the ACPE, Inc. is preferred.
