Chaplain residency program

The Chaplain Residency program is a postgraduate degree educational experience. Most residents will have completed a Master of Divinity (MDiv) degree or an equivalent theological education—although some applicants have been admitted with a master's from another background. The completion of one CPE unit (400 hours) accredited by the ACPE, Inc. is preferred.

To apply, applicants must complete the standard ACPE application and return it to us by email or mail (see contact details below). Once all of the materials and the application fee ($35) are received, qualified applicants will be interviewed by certified educators and other designated faculty.

The residency position is a stipend position and includes benefits (medical, dental, etc.) that are offered to other hospital employees.

The APCE student fee for residency is $300 per unit and is required at the beginning of each unit.

Yes. All of our CPE programs are accredited by ACPE (The Standard for Spiritual Care & Education).

As a chaplain resident, you’ll spend 12-15 hours per week in educational/classroom sessions and 20-25 hours visiting with patients, their families, and teammates, providing spiritual/pastoral support and care. A curriculum for the classroom hours is given to students at the beginning of the year, and a syllabus is provided for each unit. Residents serve as the on-call chaplain for the healthcare system 3-4 nights per month.
