Zyne has been volunteering at Mount Pleasant Hospital since May of 2017, almost nine years. She has worked 4,026 hours to date.
Zyne chooses to come in on Thursdays and Fridays at 7 a.m., so that she is early, and she stays until 1:30 p.m. That’s a six-and-a-half-hour shift! Zyne loves to work!! She began working for her Father’s Butcher and Grocery store when she was nine years old, after school, and on weekends. Her strong work ethic came from her Dad, who owned two stores in New Jersey. Zyne got to work at the cash register and slice lunch meat for customers. Her family lived above one of the stores, so it was easy to get to work.
When Zyne lived in New Jersey, she worked for the state for 40 years, in a pediatrician’s office, and the Estee Lauder factory. She loved working all jobs but really enjoyed Estee Lauder.
Zyne enjoys greeting and directing people, answering phones, providing necessary patient information and especially having fun with the Pet Therapy Dogs and handlers.
Volunteering at Mount Pleasant Hospital is her happy place. This past holiday season, Zyne came in on Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day in case visitors needed help.
People often inquire about volunteering at the information desk and Zyne encourages them to volunteer. She tells them, it’s fun and you should do it! During Zyne’s time at Mount Pleasant Hospital, she has made many friends, humans and pet therapy dogs. Many volunteers enjoy the benefits of making new friends and building community.
Zyne gets great fulfillment out of volunteering and loves to come to work. I can call Zyne if someone cannot come in as planned to volunteer, and she will always fill in when she can.
Please join me in congratulating Zyne on the Lifetime Hours Award this year!
