Lactation and breastfeeding support

Breastfeeding your baby can be a wonderful bonding experience. At Roper St. Francis Healthcare, our board-certified lactation consultants are here for you with practical, personalized support from hospital to home.

  • Education and resources: Our lactation consultants are always available to answer your questions and provide additional resources to support you.
  • Feeding challenges: We offer practical tips to help you overcome several feeding hurdles, including poor latch, sore/cracked nipples, breast engorgement, low milk supply and tongue-tie concerns.
  • Hospital-grade pump access and rentals: You can borrow one of our hospital-grade pump kits during your stay or rent one when you go home.
  • In-hospital bedside support: Our trained lactation consultants provide hands-on bedside or NICU feeding support, including latching and positioning.
  • Pumping guidance: We offer advice on pumping safety, techniques, timing, and return-to-work pumping, as well as guidance on storing your breast milk.

Breastfeeding classes and support

Whether you’re learning to breastfeed for the first time or have breastfed before, learning in a supportive environment can build your confidence and help you succeed. Join one of our in-person or virtual classes for practical tips on latching, pumping and feeding in the first few weeks.
