Tuesday, October 16, 2018 - Pink Fire Truck coming to Roper St. Francis Healthcare facilities this week!

This week a bright pink fire truck and crew will be parked outside of Roper St. Francis Healthcare’s three Lowcountry hospitals. The emergency truck is not a cause for alarm, rather it’s a visual reminder of our commitment to fight breast cancer.

Pink Fire Truck will be at the following facilities from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

  • Tuesday, Oct. 16 -  Roper Hospital, 316 Calhoun Street, downtown Charleston

  • Wednesday, Oct. 17 - Roper St. Francis Mount Pleasant Hospital 3500 N Hwy 17, Mount Pleasant

  • Friday, Oct. 19 - Roper St. Francis Cancer Center, Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital campus, 2085 Henry Tecklenburg Drive, West Ashley

Roper St. Francis Healthcare is leading the fight against breast cancer with several innovative approaches to care and research that extend far beyond October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We are accredited by the National Accreditation Program of Breast Centers. Our favorable outcomes and five-year survival rates exceed state and local benchmarks.

We are here to assist with any breast cancer story ideas along with arranging patient/survivor interviews. Roper St. Francis offers numerous cancer care options, including:

Clinical Trials & Genetic Assessment – We are participating in several trials with the latest innovations and treatment options and using some of the most sophisticated tools available in South Carolina.

Multidisciplinary Cancer Team Assessment – Imagine Tom Hanks, Denzel Washington and Meryl Streep in the same movie? We bring an all-star roster of cancer doctors together routinely to discuss patient treatment options and alternatives for the best care.

Nurse Navigators – Our free program features dedicated staff specialized in guiding patients through all facets of care, including emotional support and after treatment.

Massage Therapy & Exercise – Cancer treatment can take its toll physically. We offer a dedicated massage therapist who can care for any aches and pains. Additionally, we offer specialized exercise treatment so survivors can recover faster.

Dietitians – Recovering from cancer involves a well-balanced diet. Roper St. Francis dieticians ensure our patients are recovering with the best food choices and guidance available.

Mental Health / Social Workers – Physical health is just one component of breast cancer care. Focusing on the spiritual side of recovery is a big emphasis of a complete treatment plan. Social workers help patients with the rigors of daily life outside of treatment to ensure a full success.

Healing Boutique – Located in our cancer center, this store features specialized cancer comfort products. Staff include a licensed cosmetologist to help with hair replacement and custom wig fitting. A certified post-mastectomy fitter is also available to help with clothing options.

From our experts:

  • Breast cancer affects one out of eight women in the U.S.

  • Most women with breast cancer have no family history of breast cancer.

  • Routine screening mammography uses much less radiation then an average chest X-ray and is the most important tool for early detection of cancer.
