Teammates, physicians give blood at Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital
Dozens of Roper St. Francis Healthcare teammates donated blood on Monday at Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital in a show of support for the Lowcountry during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Blood Connection, a nonprofit community blood center, is the exclusive provider of blood for Roper St. Francis Healthcare, and all blood donated in the Lowcountry will be used in the Lowcountry. A total of 149 people signed up to give blood, which is the largest number of signups for the Blood Connection in the Lowcountry
The Blood Connection took numerous precautions to ensure the safety of donators and phlebotomists while supporting this life-saving donation. Donors are screened prior to donating, with checks for fevers, blood pressure and iron levels. Blood Connection staff members are social distancing, frequently cleaning beds and surfaces, and frequently changing gloves and sanitizing. They wear masks and gloves the entire time.
The Blood Connection is limited to only three donors on a mobile bus at a time to follow guidelines to social distancing.
The blood drive at Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital continues until 5 p.m. today. Roper St. Francis Mount Pleasant Hospital will host a blood drive on Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. at its campus off Highway 17. Find out how to donate with the Blood Connection
