Roper Rehabilitation Hospital earns international re-accreditation in seven areas
Roper Rehabilitation Hospital again has earned accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), an internationally recognized designation for rehabilitation facilities, for the quality of its programs.
The three-year accreditation covers five inpatient and two outpatient programs, including its inpatient rehabilitation services, stroke specialty program, spinal cord specialty programs and brain injury specialty programs.
This accreditation marks the fifth consecutive accreditation from CARF to Roper Rehabilitation Hospital, and it is the highest level of accreditation that Roper Rehabilitation Hospital can earn.
Roper Rehabilitation Hospital is the only inpatient rehabilitation center in South Carolina to have this specific mix of CARF accreditations. It has the only accredited outpatient brain injury specialty program in the state, one of only two in the state with an accredited inpatient stroke, brain injury and spinal cord injury specialty programs; and one of only two with an accredited outpatient spinal cord injury specialty program.
“The successful CARF accreditation is a testament to the expertise and commitment of the Roper Rehabilitation Hospital team,” said Troy Powell, vice president of post-acute services. “As the preeminent rehabilitation provider of the Lowcountry, this team continues to raise the bar on the standard of care. This survey outcome reaffirms what we have known about Roper Rehabilitation Hospital.”
The Roper Rehabilitation Hospital team demonstrated to a team of surveyors during an on-site visit their commitment to offering programs and services that are measurable, accountable and of the highest quality.
“Roper Rehabilitation Hospital continues to have a very strong rehabilitation program that is very much valued by the communities around it and individual persons served and their families,” CARF wrote in its accreditation decision. “All specialty programs have competent team members to provide diagnosis-specific care to persons served. The leadership is supportive of the programs, which is evident in the financial support that is provided to the programs for renovations, expanding the programs, and the state-of-the-art equipment that is purchased to make the programs competitive in the market and the best for the stakeholders.”
CARF surveyors cited numerous areas of strength such as the Center for Spinal Cord Injury, the rehabilitation medical directors, the spinal cord injury team and specialty program, the stroke specialty program and the brain injury specialty program.
The Roper Rehabilitation Hospital, located within Roper Hospital, provides care to nearly 1,200 inpatients each year.
