Friday, April 26, 2024 - Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital ICU honored by AACN

Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital’s adult intensive care unit is the first in the state to achieve the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) Gold-Level Beacon Award for Excellence.

“I’m incredibly proud to work alongside this amazing team,” Chief Nursing Officer Tavia Buck said. “Receiving this award validates our strong teammate and physician engagement as well as the team’s dedication to providing compassionate and excellent care to our patients, one another and our community.”

According to the AACN, the Beacon Award program recognizes exceptional patient-centric care through three distinct modules:

  • Recognition of excellence from AACN
  • Benchmark data for measuring continual improvement
  • Actionable feedback and resources to address challenges

The program is unit-based, providing unique recognition and data unlike many other award programs. The program allows units to measure and improve patient outcomes, unit culture, staffing and credibility with consumers. For nurses, the award can help support a positive and supportive work environment with greater collaboration, higher morale and lower turnover.

This recognition comes on the heels of Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital’s fourth Magnet designation application. The American Nurses Credentialing Center's Magnet Recognition Program distinguishes hospitals that meet rigorous standards of nursing excellence and demonstrate professionalism, teamwork and superior patient care.
