Throughout 2025, the project moved from planning into visible progress on the hospital's foundation, setting the stage for vertical construction in 2026. Critical underground elements advanced during the fall months, including installation of utilities and completion of more than 2,000 concrete piles to support the building's podium and tower. In all, about 4,600 piles will anchor the building's weight into solid ground. Steps also were taken to secure major equipment needed for the hospital’s mechanical systems.
A mockup of the hospital exterior and excavation of an elevator pit are some of the most visible elements of the site. The elevator pit is enclosed with steel sheet piles that serve as a barrier from the surrounding soil. The site is teaming with crews and heavy equipment such as pile drivers and concrete trucks.
In March 2026, the former Verizon building – the largest structure remaining on the site – will be torn down. Structural steel installation will begin soon after that, anticipated in April. Work to enclose the building will start by the end of the year.
