Roper St. Francis maintains its commitment to serve healthcare needs in Berkeley County, a community that has seen tremendous growth over the last few years. The Berkeley Hospital will be centrally located at Carnes Crossroads, where Highway 17A and 176 intersect as part of a mixed-use planned community being developed by the Daniel Island Company.
This new hospital will address a real and growing need in a vibrant community. We are proud to bring the proven, quality care that people of the Lowcountry have trusted for more than 150 years closer to the thousands of Berkeley residents who already rely on Roper St. Francis.
Residents of Berkeley and Dorchester counties will have more convenient access to comprehensive healthcare services within the next three years. Roper St. Francis Berkeley Hospital will take one year to design and two years to build. The goal is for the new facility to be open to the community in 2019.
The 140,000-square-foot hospital will feature 50 beds and offer obstetrics, physical therapy, infusion therapy, radiology and imaging services, as well as an emergency department, full laboratory services and pharmacy. A medical office building will be built next door on the 90-acre campus. The project is expected to create 285 new jobs in the Lowcountry. An estimated 215 people will work in the medical facilities during the first year, ramping up to 250 in its second year and 285 by year three.
