Tuesday, August 1, 2023 - Roper St. Francis Healthcare hospitals earn five star rating for quality performance

Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital and Roper St. Francis Mount Pleasant Hospital earned five out of five stars for overall hospital performance according to Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

Roper St. Francis Mount Pleasant Hospital has achieved this five-star rating from CMS three years in a row. This year, Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital achieved a five-star status as well. Both facilities were two of only eight hospitals statewide to earn five stars and among just 483 nationwide to do so.

“Our true measure of success lies in the well-being and satisfaction of our patients,” said Matt Desmond, regional president of Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital and Roper St. Francis Mount Pleasant Hospital. “These ratings reflect the trust and confidence that our community has in us as we strive to provide the highest standard of care. It’s a testament to our dedication to quality and I couldn’t be prouder of our teammates.”

CMS assigns star ratings to hospitals nationwide based on 46 hospital quality measures across five categories: mortality, safety of care, readmission, patient experience and timely and effective care. The ratings are based on quality data as recent as March 2022 and are geared at driving systematic improvements in care and safety as hospitals strive to achieve and maintain high ratings.
