When you or your loved one is in need of hospital care, worrying about financial issues can be stressful. If you don’t have health insurance, or if your health insurance does not cover all the costs, there may be federal and state resources that can help. Roper St. Francis Healthcare offers a Financial Counseling service to help patients identify possible options for financial assistance. Eligibility requirements and the application process may be different depending upon the program.
It’s very important that you meet with a financial counselor as soon as possible to learn about what may be available to you. We want your focus to be on your health and recovery, not financial worry, so our counselors are here to assist every step of the way. There is absolutely no additional cost for our financial counseling assistance.

For our patients’ convenience, we have arranged with Charleston County to station a county Medicaid worker at our healthcare system. A Financial Counselor will assist patients with all associated Medicaid application paperwork; this includes helping patients complete the Medicaid application. The county representative will work directly with patients at the hospital or patients may also request a telephone appointment with a county representative.
Patients must have spoken with a Financial Counselor and have been deemed not eligible for federal or state programs before receiving a charity care program referral.
