Roper St. Francis Healthcare, in partnership with Trident United Way and MUSC, released on Tuesday its Tri-County Health Improvement Plan (TCHIP) at the second annual Tri-County Health Symposium.

The TCHIP is the first health improvement plan developed specifically for Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties. More than 80 volunteers from 60 organizations participated in development of the Tri-County Health Improvement Plan, clocking a total of 2,300 hours over a 12-month period.

“This is such a tremendous way to now have over 60 different agencies, not profit, healthcare related, all of the clinics and everybody in our tri county area working together in the same direction,” said Mark Dickson, vice president of mission for Roper St. Francis Healthcare at the event’s press conference. “We’re going to be so much healthier as a community and Roper St. Francis is proud to be a founding member in this effort.”

The Health Improvement Plan aims to provide better access and education to underserved community groups. Five priority areas include: access to care; behavioral health; preventive services; maternal; infant/child health, obesity, nutrition and physical activity.

Healthy Tri-County was started in 2016 after Trident United Way, Roper St. Francis Healthcare and MUSC conducted the 2016 Community Health Needs Assessment. Each organization recognized the need for a regional initiative such as Healthy Tri-County to promote better health outcomes in Charleston, Dorchester and Berkeley counties.
