News 2: Snow Babies are coming!

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD)- Hospitals are a little busier this week, especially in the Labor and Delivery department.
If you flip the calendar back 10 months, you'll remember the snow storm that hit the Lowcountry in January.
Catherine Scarlett just gave birth to her new baby, Virginia, on Monday and says, "We got snowed in so... you do the math."
Some families built snowmen, some went sledding, and some found more creative ways to pass the time. For a few, like the Scarlett family, that means little bundles of joy are coming into the world right on schedule in October.
Scarlett says, "It's funny. I mean, it doesn't snow often and everyone kind of gets hunkered down, and it's exciting, and work is canceled, and school is canceled, so I think it's a really exciting time."
Doctors say they've seen this trend before, often following weather events.
Roper St. Francis OB/GYN Dr. Lauri Bullen says, "When it gets really busy we think, what happened 10 months ago? Was it a hurricane? Was it a winter storm? What was it? So we do think about it and it does sometimes seem to correlate."
Scarlett says, "I was about 9-years-old when Hurricane Hugo hit and I would hear about "Hugo babies" and didn't have a full understanding of what that meant, but now we're talking about "snow babies" and I do."
Doctors are now marking their calendars for July when they expect Hurricane Florence babies to make an arrival.
Dr. Bullen says, "I bet we will be seeing that in the next few weeks, a little tick up from people who are now pregnant."
