Friday, September 7, 2018 - Matt Desmond named new Chief Administrative Officer of Roper Hospital
Matt Desmond will be joining our Roper Hospital team as the new Chief Administrative Officer effective Sept. 17.

Matt has 18 years of leadership experience in hospitals. He spent the last four years at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, a not-for-profit, 912-bed academic medical center in the center of our nation’s capital. It’s one of the 100 largest hospitals in the county and renowned for handling the region’s most complex cases.

Matt is one of the center’s vice presidents and is responsible for coordinating all business operations across perioperative services, anesthesia, critical care, pharmacy, rehab and imaging. His operational oversight includes more than 1,000 employees, 35 operating rooms and more than $250 million in operating expenses across 28 departments.

Matt’s experience in working with complex organizations as well as his expertise in using data to improve business performance will make him a strong leader for our hospital. He’s also trained in the Studer Group principles, which are integrated throughout our organization to enhance our culture of excellence.

Matt is new to the Charleston community but has family ties to the area. He’s moving here with his wife, Kelly, and three sons, ages 8, 7 and 1.

We look forward to the way Matt will elevate the hospital's efforts to be a regional and national leader in quality, access and affordability.
