Sea Island cotton was one of the most important economic cash crops of the Lowcountry until just before the Civil War. Local botanist and author of The Story of Sea Island Cotton, Richard Porcher talks about the journey of the cotton seed, its Lowcountry history and the mystery of what happened to local varieties.
