Bon Secours St. Francis (BSSF) Hospital is proud to be recognized as a Magnet Hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. The Magnet Recognition Program® recognizes hospitals that foster positive work environments where nurses are engaged and retained and whose nurses and healthcare team members provide exceptional patient care. Healthcare consumers rely on Magnet designation as the ultimate credential for high quality nursing. BSSF is the first Magnet Hospital in the Lowcountry and one of only three in South Carolina. Learn why Magnet recognition is important to you.
BSSF was designated as a Magnet organization in 2010 by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program®. This prestigious designation recognizes excellence in nursing services. In 2015, BSSF is applying for re-designation.
In February of 2007, BSSF Nursing implemented shared governance in order to involve more direct care nurses in decision-making regarding professional practice, research, quality and patient safety and professional advancement. Representatives from unit-based councils participate on hospital-wide councils, which in turn report their discussions and recommendations to the Leadership Advisory Council. These councils are very active and some are interprofessional, tackling such issues as nursing policies, evidence-based practice and process improvement, quality and patient safety, nursing research, specialty certification and continuing education, informatics, RN turnover rates and retention activities and recognition of our nurses’ achievements.
The BSSF Nursing Excellence Professional Practice Model is an illustration of how our nurses practice, collaborate, communicate and develop professionally to provide the highest quality of care. The roots of the model’s tree represent the foundation of our nursing practice, the trunk embodies our nurses’ attributes and the foliage indicates that we are always reaching toward the best outcomes for our patients and nurses.
