What is vBloc Therapy?

Imagine losing 30% of your body weight without changing your anatomy and still eating the foods you love. Roper St. Francis Bariatric and Metabolic Services is the only center in South Carolina to offer vBloc Therapy, a life-long weight loss solution that blocks hunger signals between the brain and stomach, making you feel fuller longer and reducing the amount of food you want to eat. vBloc is completely reversible and the device can be removed at any time.

How is vBloc Therapy done?
vBloc Therapy is delivered through an implantable device that works like a pacemaker for your stomach. This device intermittently blocks the signals in your vagus nerve, which sends signals between the brain and the stomach that control your hunger sensation.

What to Expect
Many patients who have used vBloc Therapy report feeling full longer. Unlike other treatments, vBloc Therapy does not prevent nutrient absorption or alter your anatomy. Because the therapy directly targets your source of hunger, losing weight does not require as many changes as a traditional bariatric diet. However, it is still important to make good nutritional choices and to exercise regularly.

Who can receive vBloc Therapy?

• BMI of 40 to 45
• BMI of 35 to 39.9 with a health-related condition such as type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea or high blood pressure
• Being unable to maintain weight loss through diet and exercise in a supervised program within the last five years
• Be at least 18 years of age

What is the procedure cost & coverage for vBloc Therapy?
vBloc Therapy has no health insurance coverage, but we offer financing options to spread the cost over 24 months or longer. The cost of vBloc Therapy is $18,300.
