Roper St. Francis HBO Department Earns Accreditation with Distinction

Roper Hospital’s Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBO) Department has received Level I accreditation with distinction from the Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS). The hospital’s HBO Department is one of only two accredited facilities in South Carolina to be honored with Level I accreditation and the only center in the state to receive accreditation with distinction. There are 73 accredited HBO centers in the nation. Roper’s HBO Department is one of only 12 to receive accreditation with distinction.

The department recently added three new hyperbaric chambers, the most advanced available. These chambers are designed to offer increased patient comfort, safety and efficiency. The HBO Department, which provided 1,251 treatments in 2007, is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It is staffed by two RN’s with Lance Davis, MD, serving as Medical Director. Dr. Davis is board certified in Undersea & Hyperbaric Medicine by the American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM).
