Friday, June 9, 2017 - New CEO Named to Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital
Stephen Porter has been selected as Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital’s new chief executive officer.

Porter began his health care career in Richmond, Va. in 1995 and most recently served as corporate vice president of the Northern Virginia Region at Sentara Healthcare and president of Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center, a 183-bed, not-for-profit hospital in Prince William County, Va.

“Steve has received numerous leadership awards and his hospitals have consistently achieved high performance marks for quality and patient satisfaction,” said Matt Severance, chief operating officer of Roper St. Francis. “We are confident he will be an excellent fit to continue our tradition of excellence.

Porter served as a dedicated member of the Sentara team for more than 18 years. He brings more than 25 years of experience and achievement in for-profit, public and not-for-profit health system management, medical group management and health plan operations.

Porter holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from James Madison University Harrisonburg, Va., and a master’s degree in healthcare administration from the Medical College of Virginia. His long history of community service includes being an active board member for Youth for Tomorrow, the Prince William Virginia Chamber of Commerce and the Prince William Virginia Economic Development.

“I want to continue building on the incredible foundation that’s already been established by the leadership, medical staff and teammates at Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital and across Roper St. Francis,” Porter said. “During my visits to the community, I have been so impressed by the people I have met and the pride they have in the services they provide to the community and I look forward to joining their team.”

He and his wife Julie have two children in high school.

Porter will replace Allen Carroll who retired in May after 27 years leading Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital. He will begin his service July 10.
