Tuesday, May 3, 2016 - Roper St. Francis Physical Therapy powered by ATI acquires Charleston Physical Therapy

CHARLESTON, S.C. (May 3, 2016) – Roper St. Francis Physical Therapy powered by ATI has expanded again in the Lowcountry through the acquisition of Charleston Physical Therapy.

The joint venture launched in late 2015 as a collaborative effort between Roper St. Francis and ATI. Roper St. Francis is the Lowcountry’s largest healthcare provider for adults, and ATI is one of the premier providers of physical therapy in the U.S.

Charleston Physical Therapy is the company’s newest acquisition. Charleston Physical Therapy has three locations – West Ashley, James Island and Mount Pleasant. The new sites combined with existing locations means patients will have a total of 11 Roper St. Francis Physical Therapy powered by ATI locations where they can seek therapy. Roper St. Francis Physical Therapy powered by ATI already had acquired Rehabilitation Center of Charleston, an eight-clinic outpatient orthopedic and sport physical therapy practice.

“Charleston Physical Therapy has a wonderful reputation in the community among patients and physicians,” said Doug Bowling, vice president and chief strategy officer for Roper St. Francis. “Their treatment philosophy matched Roper St. Francis Physical Therapy powered by ATI’s approach to patient care – they are patient centered and clinically excellent in a compassionate, encouraging environment. We’re proud to have Charleston Physical Therapy as part of our team.”

This latest acquisition includes a physical therapy clinic that is located at Boeing South Carolina. Roper St. Francis Health Alliance also has a contract with Boeing South Carolina to offer its teammates a health plan option that exclusively uses the alliance’s doctors and hospitals.

“We are excited to join the new Roper St. Francis Physical Therapy powered by ATI team,” said Marilyn Swygert, owner of Charleston Physical Therapy. “We look forward to the additional resources we can offer the community and to greater care coordination for each patient.”

Swygert will have an operational and clinical leadership role with Roper St. Francis Physical Therapy powered by ATI.

“The addition of Charleston Physical Therapy to our partnership with Roper St. Francis further strengthens our commitment to the communities we serve and the care we provide to our patients,” said Ray Wahl, division president of ATI Physical Therapy. “Charleston Physical Therapy has a strong history of providing exceptional care, and together we will provide Lowcountry residents additional access to the highest level of physical therapy services and extraordinary outcomes.”

The growing organization expects to open two additional new locations during the next few months. The addition of Charleston Physical Therapy gives existing patients access to more master clinicians, well-established physicians and convenient locations.

Roper St. Francis will continue to offer inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services at its hospital facilities, including Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital, Roper Hospital and Roper St. Francis Mount Pleasant Hospital.

Roper St. Francis hospital facilities as well as Roper St. Francis Physical Therapy powered by ATI will be the preferred partners of Roper St. Francis physicians who are referring patients to physical therapy. ATI has developed a comprehensive, fully integrated program to help Roper St. Francis patients’ outcomes for conditions requiring physical therapy.
