Roper St. Francis Announces New Vice President of Human Resources
CHARLESTON, S.C. (April 29, 2014) – Melanie Stith has been named Roper St. Francis’ new vice president of Human Resources.
Stith has served as the healthcare system’s director of Human Resources and Organizational Development since July 2006.
David Dunlap, president and chief executive officer of Roper St. Francis, described Stith as a collaborative leader with strong communication and analytical skills.
“Melanie brings an impressive set of credentials, in addition to an energetic and enthusiastic personality, to this key role within our organization,” he said. “She serves as a trusted adviser for the HR team, fellow leaders and physicians regarding our workforce and issues that impact Roper St. Francis and its people.”
During Stith’s tenure, she has been a champion of teammate satisfaction and engagement. She re-engineered the performance coaching process and was instrumental in designing the automated web portal to track and trend performance data. Roper St. Francis has seen strong high-performer retention rates.
Stith led the development of a new leader program known as “Taking the HELM,” which better prepares leaders for their responsibilities and gives them a deeper understanding of the system’s culture and history. She also co-chairs the system's Diversity and Inclusion Council.

Prior to working for Roper St. Francis, Melanie practiced law in the areas of employment law litigation and counseling. She handled matters on issues such as Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Family and Medical Leave Act.
Stith is active in her community and is a lifelong resident of Charleston. She was appointed by the governor to serve on the South Carolina Human Affairs Commission, and she is president of the South Carolina Healthcare Human Resources Association.
She has a bachelor’s degree in business management with a concentration in human resources from Clemson University and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law. She is certified in Healthcare Human Resources through the American Hospital Association, and she is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources through the HR Certification Institute, which is an independent certifying organization for the human resources profession. Stith is married and has three children.
