Thursday, April 2, 2015 - Dr. Valerie Scott earns “best” physician award; Roper St. Francis Healthcare is best place to give birth
Dr. Valerie Scott was voted “Best Physician” in the City Paper’s annual Best of Charleston contest while Roper St. Francis Healthcare was once again voted “Best Place to Give Birth.”

What’s most impressive is that a total of five Roper St. Francis Healthcare physicians made the list of finalists for Best Physician, including Scott, and doctors Allston Kitchens, Priscilla Holtzclaw, Marshall Newton and Robert Oliverio.

Scott is board certified in family medicine and works at Mt. Pleasant Family Practice. She completed medical school and an internship in internal medicine at Emory University and her residency at the Medical University of South Carolina.

Dr. Scott is a Fellow of the American Board of Family Medicine, and she frequently blogs for Vital Signs and the blog Roper St. Francis Health Hub on rsfh.com. She helps organize the annual Roper St. Francis Sports Physical Clinic, which will be held at West Ashley High School on April 25. On top of all of that, Dr. Scott is an excellent ambassador for living a lifestyle of wellness. No other Roper St. Francis Healthcare physician has referred more patients — about 50 so far — into Move IT! Charleston County.

“I’m very excited about this,” Dr. Scott said Wednesday. “The doctors who were nominated are all fabulous. They are all great primary care doctors. Its’ an honor to be in that group.”

Roper St. Francis Healthcare remains a perennial favorite in the City Paper’s birth category, winning every year since at least 2010 (that’s as far back as their online archives go.) This consistency is a testament to the caring and skilled teammates who staff our maternity suites and nurseries at Bon Secours St. Francis and Roper St. Francis Mount Pleasant hospitals.
